Core Ultrasound

Core (Level 1) Ultrasound – 2 day course

Our core ultrasound course follows the Royal College of Emergency Medicine curriculum but expands on it in order for you to be able to get the most out of your ultrasound practice. The course covers:

  • Ultrasound physics
  • Focused Assessment with Sonography in Trauma (FAST) including assessment for pneumothorax (eFAST).
  • Abdominal aortic aneurysm
  • Echo in life support
  • Ultrasound for vascular access – central , peripheral, arterial
  • Ultrasound in the shocked patient
  • Governance

The course aims to delver as much hands on scanning as possible. In order to do this we operate an instructor to candidate ratio of one to four.

No previous ultrasound experience is required and we welcome delegates from any professional background. The faculty have considerable experience in the training of Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACPs).

Day 1

Day 1 covers the following topics

  • Ultrasound physics
  • Handling the transducers and familiarisation with the ultrasound machines
  • Abdominal aortic aneurysm
  • Echo in life support
  • Vascular access

Day 2

Day 2 covers the following topics

  • Extended FAST scan including assessment for pneumothorax
  • Ultrasound in shock and resuscitation
  • Good governance
  • Free scanning guided by the delegates learning needs
